Kelloggs.com: Toucan Sam is world renowned for his single-mined dedication to “finding the best fruit flavors on the planet,” most notably Kellogg’s Froot Loops. As a fruit connoisseur, Toucan Sam knows that Kellogg’s Froot Loops are the best fruit flavors in the world - bar none! Yet, Toucan Sam isn’t just out to get Froot Loops for himself as he’s far too generous for that! He’s always willing to help others find a “fruitful snootful,” and to share the bounty of a Kellogg’s Froot Loops breakfast.   My Opinion: Toucan Sam was created to scare little children into eating horribly sweet cereal. Younger kids probably thought, if they did not "follow their nose" as Toucan Sam instructed them, he would probably peck out their eyes with his beak. Of course, a real toucan would die just moments after eating a serving of the cereal, but Kelloggs thought a living mascot would be better for sales than a dead one, so they told a little white lie and got away with it. Furthermore, Toucan Sam is now over 40 years old, after he was born along with Fruit Loops cereal in 1963. He should have died dozens of years ago. In closing, the next time your child asks for a box of sugar disguised as a fruity cereal with a 41 year old toucan on the box, tell him to stick to Count Chocola.
